Picture special: Halloween spooktacular at Mill

Many of the revellers were in fancy dress and Deputy Mayor Dineen Walker had the difficult task of judging the competition before awarding the winners with prizes sponsored by Tesco Northcott.

Everyone was greeted with a warm welcome - a breathtaking fire show performed by Firepoise - before they made their way over to the theatre where a spooky science show awaited.

Scientific Sue and her fire breathing dragon took participants on an amazing journey of scientific discovery in the theatre auditorium with spooky slime and magical colour changing potions. The civic square provided the ideal backdrop for lots of spooky fun with seasonal arts and crafts, bouncy castles and stalls.

A spellbinding dance routine was provided by the council’s ‘Try Dance’ programme, while Cool FM DJs Gareth Stewart and Mairead Campbell kept everyone entertained with their live radio show until the grand finale fireworks display.

“It was great to see so many families and people of all ages getting into the fun of the Halloween celebrations with many making amazing efforts for the fancy dress competition. There was plenty of family fun to keep everyone entertained and the biggest crowd yet turned out to enjoy it. To add to the success, the event also managed to raise over £1,000 for the Mayor’s charities which is fantastic,” Alderman Walker commented.

At their monthly meeting on Monday evening, councillors praised officers and staff on the success of this year’s programme of Halloween festivities, particularly the Magical Mystical Mill event on Saturday evening (November 2).
