Please enforce law over traffic lanes

IT is good news that the Wallace Avenue/Queens Road is to be upgraded. I have one plea to those responsible for the project and that is that they find some way of enforcing the left only turn onto Wallace Avenue for traffic approaching from the South.

Whilst most law abiding motorists queue for the Straight Ahead towards Belfast Lane, a minority - often driving expensive cars - seem to think that the Highway Code does not apply to them.

They ignore the queue of traffic in the right hand lane for Belfast and drive up the top of left turn only lane where they force their way into the right hand lane thus jumping the queue. This daily practice is both dangerous and frustrating for decent motorists.

If the PSNI Traffic division policed that junction they could easily make £1000 per day in fixed penalties.

There are other measures that could be taken to ease the flow of traffic at peak times around Lisburn.

The Roads Division could remove four parking spaces just below the Health Centre on Linenhall Street. This would allow traffic going towards Belfast to clear the area faster. The same applies to the parking spaces opposite McCalls, the end ones block traffic turning onto Linenhall Street.

Interestingly, before the advent of Metered Parking Bays both those areas were strictly enforced No Parking, Double Yellow Lined areas.

Finally I am delighted that the practice of those using Disabled Blue Badges to block Chapel Hill is to be ended.

Having observed many of those who seem to abuse Blue Badges to park along Chapel Hill I can assure you that many are anything but disabled, instead they are just lazy and content to park for free.
