Praying for a 21st Century Carson

SIR, In less than five years, the DUP have moved from "never never never" will we sit in government with Sinn Fein to what appears to be total capitulation to this party.

The agreement reached at Hillsborough between DUP/SF gives SF a veto on justice legislation and spending decisions among other issues.

They have also agreed that the new Justice Minister, from whatever party, will be given "exceptional powers to make controversial or urgent decisions" without the backing of the Executive.

They also agreed a new parades commission. This new panel will " promote and support direct dialogue between the loyal orders, band parade organisers, local residents groups and other interested stakeholders" . Direct dialogue will be legally enforceable.

The DUP have also agreed that action be taken on "outstanding matters from the St. Andrews agreement".

This includes expansion of North/South parliamentary links. If this is how the DUP protect and maintain the Union, I pray a 21st Century Carson will step forward as a matter of urgency, as the DUP actions seem to be promoting union with the R.o.I.
