UUP councillor Edwin Stevenson said: “While everybody in the area will obviously be very concerned, it is important that the welfare of the residents themselves are put before any other considerations. This is a home that has just re-opened in the past number of years and people will be very worried, but it is important that we wait until the outcome of the enquiries have been considered.”

Management of Rush Hall Care Home said that staff have been suspended pending the outcome of the enquiry, but that this was “in line with normal procedure.”

A spokesperson said: “The management of Rush Hall and Four Seasons Health Care Senior Managers are cooperating actively and fully with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, the RQIA and PSNI in an investigation into allegations relating to the care of vulnerable adults. A number of staff have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation in line with our normal procedure and nothing more should be read into this. The wellbeing of the people in our care is our first priority and we have an active whistle-blowing policy that encourages staff to report any concerns and we always work with the relevant authorities to ensure they are rigorously investigated. It would be inappropriate to comment further ahead of the outcome of the investigation.”

The PSNI and RQIA (Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority) confirmed they were involved in an investigation into allegations of abuse involving vulnerable adults at an independent care home. UUP councillor Edwin Stevenson expressed hope that the investigations are brought to a swift conclusion.
