Royal recognition for superb Limavady student

One of the brightest young ‘sparks’ around, Adrian Canning has added a royal accolade to his already substantial list of recent achievements.

The Dungiven man, who studies at the Greystone Road campus of the North West Regional College in Limavady, has been recognised for his accomplishments through learning by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers at Buckingham Palace.

Adrian was recently awarded a City and Guilds Medal for Excellence Level Three Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology at North West Regional College and was honoured to then be asked to meet The Princess Royal, who has presented the awards since June 2011.

CEO and Director General of City and Guilds, Chris Jones added: “At City and Guilds, we’re all about helping people get into a job, progress on a job and move onto the next job. We are dedicated to celebrating those who have seen success through our qualifications. To receive an award from one of our Founder Members is a significant honour and achievement. Adrian should be truly proud of his accomplishment, and I wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

NWRC Lecturer Keith Wade, who nominated Adrian for the Medal, said: “Recognition from the awarding body that have facilitated Adrian’s qualifications would demonstrate the important role that City and Guilds have played in his success. North West Regional College are delighted that Adrian’s outstanding achievements have been recognised with such a prestigious award.”

Speaking about his success, the young man himself said: “I was delighted to receive this award from Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace. I have an immense feeling of pride and achievement and I would like to extend my thanks to the staff at North West Regional College for their support.”
