Safety improvements urgently needed

THE Roads Service has spent a considerable time and a vast amount of money attempting to improve a corner on the Hillhall Road between the church and Orrs Lane.

Certainly the corner now has better lighting with a wider verge. However, from a safety point of view the so called improvement has been a major step backwards. If a vehicle travelling from Lisburn mounts the pavement and then the grass verge there is a real possibility that this vehicle will nosedive into the adjoining field.

What is needed now is a metal barrier on the edge of the pavement similar to what we see in the middle reservation of the motorway. No corrective action can only lead to accidents with the most serious injury or worse. I hope it doesn’t become a situation of I told you so.
