'Shocked' at Marine refusal

SIR - I was totally shocked by your headline this week and would like to offer a comment.

In these days of recession Mervyn McAllister, an individual with foresight puts a plan to improve the Marine Hotel and bring jobs, more visitors and economic growth for Ballycastle yet the Planning department is set to reject the new Marine Hotel project on the ground of spoolinf someone's view or access to parking, twenty three objections and only five letters of support..... shame, shame.

I attended the public meeting in the Marine Hotel and those of us who showed up appeared impressed and looked forward to the new Hotel. At no time did I feel we needed to pass on to the Planning dapartment that we favoured this plan.

What are people goin to do if the Marine Project is shelved, where will we hold weddings, functions, etc? Where would we be without a town Hotel, another village on the coast?

Maybe Ballycaste people don't need a Hotel in their town? I'd be interested to hear some replies.

D. Heffernan.
