They have come together in a variety of areas, including forming a Joint Student Council, taking part in shared PE lessons and entering an Abbey Community College team in the 2014/15 East Antrim Cup and League.

Students at both schools have also played a key role in designing the college’s uniform and badge.

The new uniform is still being kept under wraps, but pupils who contributed to the design process are pleased with what has been created. Here’s what some had to say:

“Uniforms are an important part of school life and it has been fun helping to create a uniform which we hope everyone will recognise as our new school.” - Taylor Redpath.

“The new uniform is nice. It was good for the pupils to be involved so they are happy with what they have to wear.” - Lewis Coupe.

“In the future I will look back and remember that I helped design the uniform for our school.” - Aga Golonka.

“I think the new uniform is really nice. I like the badge; it stands out against the blazer. I am looking forward to meeting new people in Abbey Community College.” - Alex Downing.

The motto of the new post-primary school, which will be located at the current Monkstown School site on Bridge Road, will be “Believe, Achieve, Succeed”.
