State of Riverside Park

SIR - I would like to express my grave concern over the state and abuse of the Riverside Park area off the Greengage area.

I have two greyhounds and frequently walk them along this stretch. However last Saturday evening I was out with the dogs and notice a bunch of youths, two girls and four boys, below the railway. They were obviously drinking as they were very noisy and hurled verbal abuse at me as I passed. I then heard the smashing of a glass bottle.

This area is frequently used by dog walkers, children and cyclists so broken glass is very dangerous. Over the past few weeks one of my dogs has, on two occasions, had to go to the vets to get glass out of its paw and that's 50 a go.

I would therefore appeal to the youth not to go around smashing bottles. However I would also urge those who clean our streets to pay more attention to these important areas. I have noticed broken glass on Newal Road at the top end and it's been there for months.
