Summer diversity programme for young people

THE SELB Rural Loughshore Youth Initiative and Maghery Youth Club: Summer Diversity Programme is being held for youngsters aged 8-18 over five days, August 13-17.

It will give young people lots of opportunities to participate in a range of diverse activities.

The Summer Diversity Programme aims to give rural young people the opportunity to meet their peers from other Craigavon rural and Loughshore areas through a range of activities that are fun, enjoyable, exciting, informative, challenging and educational for all participants.

The programme will take place at Maghery & District Community Hall.

The summer programme is inclusive and encourages rural young people of all abilities and cultures to come along.

As part of the programme a ‘Fun Day’ will be organised. This fun event will be a celebration day for participants’ families and friends to come along and participate in a range of exciting and enjoyable activities.

All centre based days activities will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. The fun day will be from 10am–5pm. Trips will begin at 10am and end at 5pm.

All young people attending the summer diversity programme must bring their own packed lunch.

The programme will be supervised by qualified trained full-time and part-time youth workers, classroom assistants and young junior leaders. This group of people will become the Youth Work Team with responsibility to implement all aspects of the summer programme.

A tuck shop provision will be available for the duration of the summer programme. The tuck shop will also provide fresh fruit to encourage healthy eating and an alternative to young people consuming too much junk food.

The Summer Diversity Programme will cost £20 for one young person, for two young people from the same family £35 and for three or more young people from same family the cost is £50. This registration fee will cover all aspects of the programme, trips and the fun day as well.

Free transport will be provided for young people travelling from Aghagallon, Derrytrasna Wards, Scotch Street, Milltown and Tartaraghan.

A three day Diversity Residential to Shannaghmore Outdoor Education Centre, Newcastle will take place for 34 young people aged 13-18 from Monday– Wednesday, August 20-22. The purpose of this residential is to give five young people each from the different areas the opportunity to spend quality time together participating in a range of outdoor pursuits and social activities. It is hoped from this residential a representative Craigavon Rural and Loughshore Youth Forum will be elected!.This will ensure rural young people can come together more to discuss and plan for other combined rural youth events, projects and activities. It will cost £20 per young person.

Registration sessions for the programme will take place on Monday, August 6, at Maghery District Community Hall from 6pm-7pm and Richmount Primary School on Friday, August 10, 10am-1pm and 5pm. Registration will also take place on the first day of the Summer Diversity Programme on Monday, August 13, Maghery District Community Hall from 10am onwards.
