Time to be positive and talk our city up

AS a public representative lobbying Government Departments and Statutory Bodies for the benefit of constituents across the Lisburn City Council area on a regular basis I was surprised to read in the Ulster Star the negative comments regarding the resurfacing of some of the arterial routes into our city.

In the January monitoring round the Finance Minister Sammy Wilson, along with his Executive colleagues, allocated £7 million to the DRD Minister Danny Kennedy for road improvement schemes to be spent in this financial year ending in March. Lisburn has benefited greatly and as a local representative I am delighted.

Many of our roads were in great need of upgrading. These schemes are great news for an already depressed quarry industry and helps employment for many road contractors.

The newly resurfaced roads will be of great benefit to attract shoppers to the city, which is a great boost for retailers. The hold ups were for a short period, sometimes if there is No Pain there is No Gain. Are residents saying leave the roads the way they were, we don’t want to be put out, even for a short period of time?

Once again I appeal to the residents of our great city, talk Lisburn up, be positive and get away from what appears to be a common trait these days with many people, negativity.
