Time to deliver on city masterplan

IF Hollywood film producers are ever considering a remake or sequel to the film ‘City of the Dead’, they should consider the location to be Lisburn City.

What a dowdy, filthy city Lisburn has become over recent years and now that is coupled with economic downturn with businesses closing in the city centre on a daily/weekly basis only to be replaced by Lisburn Council banners advertising Lisburn as the ‘City of Life’ covering the empty, unused buildings.

Over the last few years many city centre regeneration masterplans have been launched by the elected representatives and Lisburn City management.

What has ever become of the plans? They seem to drift into the land of the forgotten.

My wish for Lisburn in 2012 is for Lisburn councillors and the city management to actually give birth to such a masterplan.

Failure to do so would question whether both were fit for purpose to deliver for the future of Lisburn and its people.
