Translink outlines plans for new hub

Assembly Members Paula Bradley, David Ford, Pam Cameron and Paul Girvan were among a group of local politicians who met with Translink officials recently to discuss public transport issues.

The event gave Translink managers an opportunity to update local MLAs and councillors on bus and train service performance in the Newtownabbey area.

Speaking after the event, held at Newtownabbey bus depot on Monkstown Avenue, Translink Service Delivery Manager, Gerry Mullan, said: “We wanted to provide local representatives with an update on service performance and highlight the latest Translink developments to benefit our customers such as our fare freeze during 2014.

“We recently launched our ‘Life’s Better’ campaign highlighting all the ways using the bus or train can help make lives better. As part of this we are seeking existing customers who are interested in becoming ‘Translink Ambassadors’. Further information is available online at www.translink.co.uk/lifesbetter.”

He continued: “This meeting also let us inform local representatives about proposals for a new Belfast Transport Hub to cater for current passenger demand and future growth. The existing Europa Bus Centre and Great Victoria Street Train Station currently serves around seven million passengers per year and projections indicate this could rise to at least 13 million by 2030. A new hub on the existing site would meet this increasing demand and offer extensive economic benefits.
