Unnecessary items at cemetery ‘disrespectful’

ON a recent visit to the Blaris extension cemetery I was appalled to in certain areas of the cemetery littered with unnecessary, and I would imagine, unauthorised items that are not grave furniture.

This includes teddy bears, dolls, windmills, chimes all hanging from trees. footballs and tinsel lying on the pathways too.

At one grave I saw beer cans left on a grave where a group of people were having a drink in memory of their deceased one and at another grave someone had a birthday cake.

All this will blow about the cemetery and could cause distress if found on someone else’s plot.

For me these items make the cemetery look like and eye sore and I find it disrespectful.

I also noticed that there are countless memorial seats in need of some maintenance.

There are lots of well kept areas in the cemetery and across the road in the larger Blaris Cemetery is always neat and tidy.

Why has the Council allowed this to happen and seemingly turn a blind eye to the rules and regulations of the cemetery.
