When is a reprieve not a reprieve?

WHEN I signed the petition calling for the PSNI not to go ahead with their proposal to close Dunmurry Police Station I certainly didn’t think I was backing a plan to have officers inside but the public being directed to Lisburn.

So I was amazed to read last week that is precisely what is going to happen.

I was even more amazed to read the comments of Jonathan Craig, who was one of those leading the fight to retain the station - when he said ‘there are not many things that you still need to do at a police station’.

That is certainly not what I understood he was suggesting just a few months ago.

I thought then that he was calling for what Trevor Lunn rightly said last week we needed here - ‘a working police station’.

Sometimes I despair.

If the police had intended all along to have this ‘police station lite’ option for Dunmurry they should have been open and transparent about that.

To tell us the station is saved provided you don’t actually want to use it is simply ridiculous.

Despairing Resident,
