Opportunity for Protestant groups

GATEWAY to Protestant Participation (GPP) is hosting a consultation for groups and organisations who want to influence the next phase of Peace III on Tuesday 22nd June 2010 at 7pm in Ballylaw Community Hall, Artigarvan, Strabane.

The GPP is a strategic programme designed to encourage the participation of the Protestant community by promoting a shared sense of belonging and addressing issues of marginalisation and tackling attitudes to racism and sectarianism, at a local level within the North West Peace III Cluster area. The programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, through the EU programme for Peace and Reconciliation (Peace III) managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The purpose of this consultation event is to provide an opportunity for Protestant groups, organisations, individuals and key stakeholders to share their views and opinions on what Phase II of Peace III should look like. Groups will have an opportunity to share their views and opinions with staff from local Councils, who are responsible for the preparation of the Peace III action plan and delivery of phase II of the programme.

William Lamrock, General Secretary of the Londonderry YMCA said: "We have organised this consultation event to provide Protestants with an opportunity to discuss issues affecting their communities and impacting on their lives. This will inform Council officers of the issues and themes that need to be included in phase II of Peace III and ensure the needs of the Protestant Community are reflected in the Peace and Reconciliation action plan for the North West Peace III cluster.

"We believe it is important to have a general discussion, ably facilitated to set a plan and a direction for the way ahead. It is important at this early stage that as many people as possible have an input into the direction of Phase II.

"We want to hear from as many people as possible, if you are interested in attending then come along and share your views with us. Help to shape the development of Phase II of the Peace III programme.
