Orange Order makes special presentation to the Royal Irish Guards Benevolent Fund

THE ROYAL Irish Regiment has received a three-figure sum from a special collection within the Orange Order.

The City Of Londonderry No.1 District LOL held a special meeting earlier this year in the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall for all the Lodges of No1 District to be Installed in one night.

Wor Bro David Canning suggested to take up a collection in aid of shoeboxes to go to The Irish Guards serving in Afganistan.

Bro Canning took the collection and bought items and put them into 10 boxes and forwarded them to the soldiers.

Some money was left over so it was decided to send this to The Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund.

After the meeting a social evening was held with a disco; Wor Bro Billy Stewart provided the music, he kindly donated the disco fee to the fund as well.

It was a pleasure for Wor Bro Maurice Devenney, the No.1 Worshipful District Master to present Major Alan McPeak MBE, Regimental Secretary of The Royal Irish Regiment with a cheque in aid of The Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund for sum of £115.
