Orangemen stepping out

ORANGEMEN will be stepping out this week for the showpiece of the marching season.

This year’s Twelfth demonstration takes place in Keady for County Armagh Orangemen while brethren from County Down, including Lower Iveagh, will be Newry-bound.

The Twelfth commemoration kicks off in Lurgan on Thursday with a religious service at Brownlow House for Lurgan District at 7.45am.At 8.05am Orangemen will leave The Castle and head to Russell Drive where buses will be on hand to take them to the demonstration in Keady.

The County Armagh Twelfth demonstration is now regarded as the largest gathering of Orangemen on the day. with a total of 155 private lodges and almost 5,000 brethren.

Lurgan District should be back in town for the return parade at 4pm when they will walk from Russell Drive to Brownlow House.

The Thirteenth is another big day in the marching calendar and another early start for men of the Royal Black Preceptory.

The Blackmen will parade from Brownlow House at 8.30am for a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial.

Buses to the annual Bangor parade will leave the Baptist Church car park in Johnston’s Row at approximately 9.30am. Tickets for the buses are available from stewards on the day on a first come, first served basis.

The return parade is scheduled to depart from Turkington’s garage in Flush Place at 7.30pm and finish off at Brownlow House.
