Our Kieran treks Peru for Diabetes UK

Kieran McCartney, who works in the Tesco Portstewart store, recently trekked through Peru as part of the Tesco and Diabetes UK team to help raise awareness and funds for the charity.

Diabetes UK and Tesco have been national charity partners for just over a year now and together have been working to not only raise awareness about Type 2 diabetes but also raise money to fund research into a vaccine for Type 1 diabetes.

Kieran McCartney’s fundraising efforts raised a fantastic £5,874 for Diabetes UK as a result of his tough trek across Peru.

So far the partnership has raised £12 million as well as delivered 100,000 risk assessments for Type 2 diabetes and provided information to thousands of people right across the UK.

Emma Corry, Diabetes UK Regional Tesco Account Manager said, “Kieran has done an amazing job and shown such commitment to complete the trek and continue to raise money for Diabetes UK.

“We are hugely grateful to Kieran’s efforts, the support of the Tesco Portstewart team and the local community who have donated so generously. “Fundraisers like Kieran have made an outstanding contribution so thank you for going the extra mile and helping us raise awareness about this lifelong condition which is impacting more and more families in Northern Ireland.”
