Our last traditional male barber’s shop is to close

THE LAST traditional male barber in Ballymoney is hanging up his scissors and clippers.

Cahal Close has ran ‘Close Cuts’ at Charles Street in the town since starting out with Jack Falconer 33 years ago.

The 53-year-old from Glenshesk Road near Armoy has thoroughly enjoyed his time in Ballymoney but he closes the door for the last time at 4pm on New Year’s Eve.

Cahal said many of his customers - some who have been coming to him for a short back and sides every few weeks since the day he started - are disappointed at the news that he is closing the business.

Cahal said: “There has always been great banter in the barber shop over the years and we had some real characters. You get to know people well and all topics were discussed but ‘marriage guidance’ topped the bill!

“There were some people who would tell you lots and then people waiting in line would chip in with advice but there were others who didn’t feel like talking,” said Cahal.

He added: “With every thing changing, hairstyles change as well so the door will close for the last time at 4pm on New Year’s Eve. It will be a big change for all concerned, customers and myself.”
