Outdoor fitness revolution continues at Carnfunnock

CARNFUNNOCK Country Park has joined the borough’s fitness revolution, following the success of the outdoor fitness trail at Larne’s Town Park.

Regular walkers at Carnfunnock and sports enthusiasts can now benefit from seven pieces of outdoor fitness equipment, designed to work various muscle groups in the body. All equipment can be found around the biodiversity trail and is perfect for beginners and more athletic visitors alike who are interested in exercising and promoting good health.

For the upper body there is the seated chest press, which works various angles of the chest area. There is also the lateral pull down, which works various back muscles. These along with the sit up boards will allow participants to give their upper body a good workout.

For the lower body there is the seated leg press to give three of the main leg muscle groups a workout. And the double air walker lets you can chat with your training partner while performing some cardiovascular exercises with little to no pressure on the joints. The elliptical cross trainer will allow participants to work both their lower and upper body, again putting little or no pressure on the joints. The air skier will help exercise the hips and thighs along with the lower abdomen. This combined with runs or walks around the biodiversity trail will provide a workout suited to varying abilities.

Launching the new facilities, director of development Linda McCullough said: “We are pleased to be extending our outdoor gym provision and providing even more opportunities for keeping fit and healthy. Our fitness instructors from Larne Leisure Centre have developed free workout sheets for beginners, intermediate and advanced level for Carnfunnock’s fitness trail, which can be downloaded by going to www.larne.gov.uk/carnfunnock.”
