Outline of £20m UKculture city plan

LONDONDERRY culture boss Shona McCarthy expects an outline programme for the city’s stint in the British cultural spotlight in 2013 to be in place by autumn and estimates the full cultural programme will cost £20m to put into effect.

Speaking after the first meeting of the board of directors of Culture Company 2013, the delivering authority for the first UK City of Culture programme, the Chief Executive said: “We intend to hit the ground running and build on work that has been ongoing since July 2010. We have already attracted a number of showcase events including the Turner Prize and the last leg of the Clipper round the world yacht race and are confident that we can attract many more. Programming will continue right up until 2013 as there should always be a window for new ideas and innovation.”

The £20m will come from government agencies, the private sector, trusts, foundations and ticket sales.
