Outstanding GCSE results at Our Lady of Lourdes

THE publication of the GCSE results on the morning of the 24 August witnessed scenes of great joy at Our Lady of Lourdes School Ballymoney where an outstanding 83% of the pupils achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* - C this year.

Furthermore, 100% of the Year 12 pupils in the school achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* - E, and, for the fourth consecutive year, 100% attained 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* - G.

Dr Liam Cuinneagin, Principal, declared himself 'very pleased again this year for the pupils, parents, staff and governors of the school'.

He went on: "The GCSE results attained by the pupils at grades A* - C this year are another outstanding achievement in a year of many outstanding achievements, including an excellent report from the Education and Training Inspectorate and a pupil attendance of 95%; they eclipse last year's achievement of 81% of the pupils gaining five or more GCSEs at grades A* - C.

"With 83% of our pupils attaining five or more GCSEs at grades A* - C this year, we find ourselves again this year in the top 5% of similar-type schools in Northern Ireland. Indeed, our 100% achievement at grades A* - E and 100% achievement at grades A* - G this year are also very much in line with the academic performance of the top 5% of similar-type schools in Northern Ireland.

"In the 50th anniversary year of Our Lady of Lourdes High School Ballymoney, our GCSE results once again demonstrate clearly the benefits of our supportive and challenging small-school ethos – almost all of these particular Year 12 pupils received a D grade in the Transfer Procedure or opted out of the Transfer Procedure altogether; we know our pupils very well, we have high expectations of them and, with our strong parental support, we get the best from them in every respect including academically."
