Over 100 registered homeless for one home

Despite over 100 people in the Limavady area being registered as ‘homeless’ on applications for social housing, the housing executive has only one ‘temporary accommodation’ property in the same locale.

The figures were revealed after Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland answered a series of questions from SDLP MLA Colm Eastwood.

The Foyle MLA asked Mr McCausland to “detail the number of Housing Executive applicants registered as homeless in each district office.”

The figures supplied by the Social Development Minister showed that there were a total of 103 ‘full duty applicants’ registered as homeless in the Limavady Housing Executive Office.

Colm Eastwood had also requested the number of temporary accommodation properties used by the Housing Executive in each district office. In the Limavady area, only one property is used for temporary accommodation, the Minister revealed.
