Over 1,000 replies to leisure survey

OVER 1,000 replies have been received by Craigavon council in their survey into leisure services.

And the Mayor, Councillor Meta Crozier, has appealed for more people to complete the survey before the deadline.

“Anyone who has not filled one in yet should do so as soon as possible,” she said.

“It’s important that everyone has their say on this matter. Over 1,000 replies have been received so far.”

The Mayor is urging everyone in the community to let the council know their views – and possibly win 250!

“The review of leisure provision in Craigavon is a hugely important issue and we really want to urge the public to take just five minutes of their time to fill in the survey and have their say,” she explained.

“We are looking at an investment of up to 30million so it is imperative that any decisions that are made will reflect the wants and needs of the community in the borough.”

The review is considering two options. The first is upgrading and modernising the existing centres of Cascades, Craigavon Leisure Centre and Waves. The second is the construction of a new single leisure centre, to replace the existing three centres, on a new site adjacent to Craigavon Lakes or at the existing site of Craigavon Leisure Centre.

“This is a very exciting time for leisure in the Borough as we try to plan for the future and we want involvement from as many people as possible – both users and non-users,” added the Mayor.

“Ultimately, whatever happens, all rate payers will be helping to pay for the changes so we hope to hear from as many people as possible.”

If you haven’t kept the consultation from the local papers or the In Touch magazine you can pick one up at any of the three leisure centres or log onto www.craigavon.gov.uk for a copy. The closing date is Friday, January 8, however surveys will still be accepted until Tuesday, January 12.
