Members of the public backed the Newtownabbey Foodbank campaign which was held at Tesco Northcott from December 1 until December 3.

Thanking the community, a spokesperson for the Newtownabbey Foodbank said: “A big thank you to all Tesco customers who donated food to Newtownabbey Foodbank through our three day food collection at Tesco Northcott.

“We are so grateful for the support of the Newtownabbey community, whose incredible generously enables us to provide for families who are struggling to feed their families.”

The spokesperson added: “Since The Foodbank opened in April 2015, Newtownabbey Foodbank has fed 2,390 adults and 1,948 children, which is only possible through the generosity of Tesco customers, all our partner churches, schools and organisations who donate food.

“Last year we distributed 398 Christmas Hampers and hope to do the same this year. If anyone would like to donate we particularly need tins of biscuits and sweets, Christmas cake and puddings and selection boxes. Donations can be left into Carnmoney Church Centre, 258 Carnmoney Road.”

Residents can avail of help from the food bank by obtaining a voucher from Social Services, CAP, local churches and schools, MLA offices and community groups.
