Over 50,000 cigarettes seized by police

Almost 51,000 cigarettes and 6,200 packs of rolling tobacco have been seized by Ballymena police following a search of a house on the Nursery Road.

The products, which police believe to be either smuggled or counterfeit, were seized by officers on Tuesday, December 30.

Chief Inspector Stephen McCauley said: “Details are only being made public now as follow up investigations took place in the days following the search and seizure. No one was arrested during the search and the investigation continues.”

He added: “Criminality can come in many different forms and has a negative impact on communities, including local businesses. I am confident that our proactive efforts here show that local police are committed to tackling crime and keeping people safe.”
