Over 80 motorists caught speeding in two days on same stretch of road in Magherafelt

Police detected more than 80 motorists exceeding the speed limit in a new 40mph zone at Magherafelt over two days.

The community safety van was deployed at Aughrim Road on August 19 and August 20, recording 27 detections on the first day and 59 on the second.

This site has been added to the locations where the safety vans will be deployed on an ongoing basis.

Sergeant Sam Young said this was a timely reminder that the camera vans would be in the area.

“The safety van site sites are in addition to the locations where police use other speed-detection devices, including hand-held radar,” he said.

“If you know of an area that has problems with excessive speed and may benefit from a visit, call the neighbourhood officers in Magherafelt on 101, the non-emergency number.”
