Over-limit driver left scene after she crashed hercar into fence

AN Ahoghill motorist who left the scene after crashing into a fence was found to be over the legal drink-drive limit, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told.

Karen Rose Scullion, of Parkfield Road, Ahoghill, was fined 200 and banned from driving for 12 months after admitting charges of driving with excess alcohol and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

The court was told that at 3am on July 17, police attending the scene of an accident at Ballynafie Road, observed significant damage to a rear garden fence of a property.

The driver had left the scene but when police spoke to Scullion, she provided a breath specimen with a concentration of 64 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35/100.

Solicitor Colm McElhenny said: “It hadn’t been her intention to drive but it was raining and she took the car.”

Scullion had attempted to contact police after the accident but her mobile phone battery was dead, the solicitor added.
