Over £1,000 is raised at community carol service

A capacity audience attended the annual Community Carol Service in the Jethro Centre last Thursday to hear the Christmas story in words and music.

Taking part were the choirs and clergy of St Peter’s and Shankill Parish churches, joined by the Lurgan Salvation Army Band.

A total of £1083.70 was raised in response to an offering taken up for the work in the community undertaken jointly by St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army.

The committee of the Community Outreach Group is deeply grateful and would like to record its appreciation of the truly open-hearted generosity of all those who contributed.

The Community Outreach Group’s first meeting of the New Year takes place at 8pm on Wednesday, January 9, in the Jethro Centre.

The well-known local historian, Dr Frank McCorry, will give a presentation on the role of the Brownlow family in the development of Lurgan.

The committee wishes to thank everyone who has supported the group throughout this past year and looks forward in anticipation of renewing outreach in this community during 2013.
