Over £2,000 is raised on Spla and Woody’s day

A charity golf day held in memory of two well-known and popular local men has raised over £2,000.

The event was held in memory of two Banbridge Golf Club members, Trevor Woods and Lawrence Bramall, affectionately known to many as Spla and Woody.

And the £2,200 raised was split equally between two local charities, Northern Ireland Kidney Patients Association (NIKPA) and the Southern Area Hospice.

Local UUP MLA Jo-Anne Dobson said she was delighted to be asked to nominate a charity for some of the money and also praised all those involved in the day.

Commenting Mrs Dobson said: “It was amazing to see the clubhouse packed to capacity as we honoured the memory of two of Banbridge’s much loved and dearly missed sons!

“I was honoured to be asked to nominate an organ donation charity for this event and had absolutely no hesitation in suggesting NIKPA, a charity which I have been associated with for over 20 years.

“It was lovely to get the chance to chat to both Trevor and Lawrence’s family members and to be there to accept such a generous donation on behalf of a charity a cause which is so dear to me.

“It’s testament to the high esteem with which Trevor and Lawrence are held in by the members of the club that they have decided to name the new 2nd hole ‘Bramall Woods’ in their memory.

“They both took great pride in Banbridge Golf Club and I know from speaking to many of the members during the evening that they felt the course was in the best possible condition on the day – something which the two boys would have really appreciated!

“I send my warmest congratulations to all the members of the organising committee, especially to John and Kieron and to everyone involved in setting up the Golf Day for their months of painstaking preparation.

“Thanks too to everyone who supported the event, and the money raised will go directly to help local people, which is a fitting tribute.”
