Over £20m spent patching up the local roads

OVER £20m has been spent patching up roads in the Northern Roads Service division which includes Londonderry since 2007.

The money was allocated for minor road surface repairs over six years from 2007/08.

The initial allocations to the Northern Division for carriageway patching over the period was £21,317,000 in total.

Roads Service is responsible for over 25,000 kilometres of public roads together with about 9,700 kilometres of footways, 5,800 bridges, 271,000 street lights, and 367 public car parks.

Roads Minister Danny Kennedy revealed the expenditure in response to an Assembly Question tabled by Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) MLA Jim Allister.
