Over £6.6m spent on road works in Coleraine area

Minister Kennedy said: “Roads Service is using its available resources highly effectively and continues to deliver quality public services in Coleraine Borough Council area and across Northern Ireland.”

Commenting on the proposed dualling of seven kilometres of the A26 Frosses Road between Glarryford Crossroads and Drones Road, the Minister said that he will, in due course, issue a response in the form of a Departmental Statement which will be published alongside the Inspector’s Report which the Department has just received following the public inquiries for the scheme.

“The completion of the upgrade to the traffic signals at Waterside Gyratory in Coleraine, with the introduction of a Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation (MOVA) system, will improve the capacity of the junction,” said Minister Kennedy.

“The scheme to continue the combined cyclepath/footway on Quilly Road between Coleraine and Articlave is nearing completion.”

Some of the other significant areas of work completed by Roads Service in the Coleraine area include over 15km of carriageway resurfacing at a cost of £1.93million which included significant lengths of resurfacing at Lodge Road Roundabout, Cloyfin Road, Agivey Road, Ballyrashane Road, Portstewart Road Drumslade and Mussenden Road, Articlave.

Road improvement schemes completed last year included the provision of a zebra crossing at Maghera Street, Kilrea, footway provision at Circular Road, Castlerock and safety barrier provision at Edenbane Road, Garvagh.
