Overtime costs cut by £112,00 in two years

OVERTIME payments at Larne Borough Council have been cut by almost a third in two years.

Latest figures, requested by Ald Roy Beggs, show that the total overtime bill for council staff in 2008-09 was £305,297.28. It had fallen to £229,833.88 the following year and in 2010-11 was £193,173.41.

It amounts to a cut of £112,124 in two years.

Figures were available for only the first eight months of 2011-12, by which time overtime payments amounted to £160,653.31.

Chief executive Geraldine McGahey said “a lot of good work” had been invested in reducing overtime costs and offered to bring forward a report highlighting some of the initiatives implemented in each of the council ‘s departments to show “how effective management had been and to illustrate the efforts that staff had embraced in trying to make savings for the organisation”.
