A PSNI spokesperson said that the egg “reportedly came out of nowhere” with no-one seeing who threw the object.

He stated: “This may have seemed like a bit of fun at the time to the person who did this, but this has resulted in an injury and serious trauma to a young child.”

The PSNI said that they had been making door-to-door enquiries while investigating the incident.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
