Packed programme of GADDA courses

GARVAGH and District Development Association is running an exciting and varied programme of classes, workshops and events for the autumn.

The programme commences with a 12-week Art Class on Monday, September 12 from 10.30am to 12.30pm. This class is very popular and spaces are limited, if you are interested please contact the office as soon as possible.

The Hampsey School of Traditional Music recommences on Tuesday, September 13 at 7pm for beginners and 7.45pm for Intermediate players. The school offers lessons to children aged 5+ in guitar, tin whistle, bodhran and fiddle. All new members welcome.

Are you over 55? Why not come along to the Diamond Club which meets fortnightly, next meeting to be held on Wednesday, September 14 at 2.30pm. The club offers a wide variety of guest speakers and activities to entertain. New members always welcome.

A three-week Creative Willow Workshop with Portrush willow artist and designer Louise McLean, will be held on Wednesday, September 21 at 6.30pm to 9.00pm.

In this three week course, participants will learn to work with willow creating attractive pieces for example conical plant climbers, butterflies, dragonflies and other creative ideas to give your garden a unique feeling. There is also an opportunity to learn basic basket making techniques.

For all young budding artists, the After Schools Art Club is back by popular demand, starting on Monday, September 26 from 4.15pm to 5.45pm and meeting fortnightly thereafter. This is a great class for children aged 7+ to learn drawing and sketching techniques under the guidance of a working artist.

Calling on all computer novices out there, this next course is for you, OCR Level 1 Award in IT users skills (similar to the old CLAIT).

During the ten weeks you will learn how to: lose your fear of computers; create and manage files; save and organise files; copy, paste, move and delete information; print open and save a document etc. The course begins on Thursday, September 29 at 7pm.

On Friday, September 30 from 10.00am to 12noon, come along and enjoy a coffee and chat at the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. All proceeds in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and everyone is welcome to go along.

October sees the start of a weekly After School Drama Club for children aged 6+. Following on from the success of the Summer Drama School we are going to run an after school drama club for all budding young actors. The Drama Club will give children the opportunity to learn mime, drama, dance and singing under the guidance of a professional actor.

On Saturday, October 8 from 10.00am to 4.00pm come along and participate in a one day flower arranging workshop with James Burnside. In this one day workshop James will cover a variety of techniques and styles including traditional and contemporary styles.

You will be required to bring your own materials. A list will be given upon enrolment for each course. You should have some knowledge and experience of flower arranging to attend these one day courses.

With Halloween just round the corner, children can come along on Saturda, October 22 from 10.30am to 12.30pm and have a lot of messy fun creating some ‘Spooktacular Halloween Lanterns out of willow, tissue and glue. This workshop is for children aged 7+.

All classes, workshops and events are held in Garvagh Community Building, 85 Main Street, Garvagh.
