Paddle the Bann for charity

THE Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) is encouraging people in Coleraine to register for their latest sporting challenge where you can paddle along the River Bann while raising vital funds for local cancer patients and their families.

‘Paddle the Bann’ will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 25 -26.

Participants will spend two days canoeing along a 58km route with wild camping on the banks of the River Bann overnight.

Jackie Megarry who took part in ‘Paddle the Bann’ in May had never canoed before and said: “Canoeing and wild camping are completely out of my comfort zone but the experience was terrific and I would recommend it to anyone. It was also a great way to see part of our countryside which you can’t access any other way.

Sarah Atcheson from UCF said, “This is a unique and wonderful way to experience beautiful Irish countryside and meet new people while raising funds for local people who have been affected by cancer. No previous canoeing experience is necessary as training will be provided on the event and participants will be under the supervision of qualified staff at all times.

“While participants will be paddling in two man Canadian canoes, you do not have to register as a team to take part. If you would like to take part in ‘Paddle the Bann’ it’s 25 to register and participants are asked to raise a minimum of 225 in sponsorship. Tents, camping equipment and Canadian canoes are included.”
