Paint thrown at Orange hall

BELLAGHY Orange hall was paint bombed in the early hours of July 12, according to lodge members.

The hall - located in the centre of the largely nationalist village - has been attacked on several occasions in the past.

However in recent years the number of attacks had decreased after local residents had helped to remove offensive graffiti.

A lodge member told the MAIL that paint was thrown at the front of the building and they were forced to spread sand to allow access on the Twelfth morning.

Condemning the incident, DUP Chairman of Magherafelt District Council Paul McLean said sadly there were those who could not stand other people’s right to express their culture.

“There is still an element within nationalism which is out to cause trouble and instil hatred,” he said.
