Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch searched a house in the Holly Hill area of the village on Tuesday and recovered 12 cannabis plants.

A man and woman were arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of class B drugs, possession of class B drugs with intent to supply, cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity.

Both are in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

Local DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart welcomed the police operation and said, “I am pleased that drugs have been seized, and removed from the streets of Dollingstown this morning.”

She went on to say: “The PSNI have to be commended on their actions, a long operation has led to arrests and removing this poison from our Borough!”

She also called on the public to be vigilant and report suspicious activity to the police.

The find came as a surprise to at least one Dollingstown resident who described the Holly Hill area as ‘well to do’ and not the sort of place you would expect to find a ‘cannabis growing operation’.

He said: “The area is very well to do, the houses are quite fancy, not the sort of place you’d associate with cannabis growing operations.”

Another said it was a shock to see the police pull up in the area on Tuesday.
