Pair selected to fight for UUP in council poll

Aaron Carson and Marc Woods were formally confirmed as being part of the Ulster Unionist team for the elections to the new Super Council of Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon next year.

Marc Woods will be standing in the new Lagan River DEA which takes in Waringstown, Blackskull and Donaghcloney and Aaron Carson will be standing in the new Lurgan DEA which includes the enlarged Mourneview ward.

Mr Woods said: “I have been involved with the party for a number of years now, and I consider it a privilege to be selected to represent the party at such an important election. It has become very clear that the party has turned a corner under the leadership of Mike Nesbitt, and I have been very encouraged by the feedback I am getting from people on the ground. The big attraction for me about the Ulster Unionist Party is the fact it is membership driven, and it’s the grassroots who decide who represents the party.”

Aaron Carson commented: “Being born, bred and educated in Lurgan I consider it an honour to be given the opportunity to represent my community. I have lived in the Mourneview area all my life and know only too well the issues people are facing on a daily basis.

“I would also be one of the youngest candidates, which I hope will help us reconnect with the younger voters who seem turned off by politics. The Ulster Unionist Party is a very democratic organisation, you are selected by the membership on merit; it’s what you know, not who you know in this party.”
