Pair to stand trial for murder of local man Owen Creaney

A man and woman are to stand trial later this year, charged with murdering a Lurgan man whose remains were found in a wheelie bin.

Stephen Thomas Hughes, 29, and 25-year old Shauneen Boyle are both accused of murdering Owen Creaney on a date between 3 July and 6 July 2014.

Boyle, from Edenderry Park in Banbridge, appeared in Belfast Crown Court last Friday. When she was charged with murdering Mr Creaney, she replied ‘not guilty’. Co-accused Hughes, whose address was given as HMP Maghaberry and who is from Craigavon, appeared in court in February of this year, when he also denied the murder charge.

The beaten body of the 40-year old victim was discovered in a wheelie bin in Moyraverty Court, Craigavon following a tip-off to police. A previous court heard the victim was showered after being subjected to a violent assault. It was also claimed the house in which Owen Creaney was allegedly beaten to death was cleaned by the time searches were carried out.

The case is due to be reviewed again in June, ahead of a trial which is expected to commence in September.
