PAL urges for signatures on ‘highs’ petition

PAL launched the petition on October 15, and within 24 hours it had attracted 500 signatures.

The petition, addressed to the Executive’s Health Minister Jim Wells, aims to persuade elected representatives to ban legal highs as soon as they appear on the market, and to close shops which sell them. At the time of going to press, the onlline petition featured 663 signatures.

PAL has also decided to place paper copies of the petition in local stores for those who do not have internet access.

The petition is available to sign at all local GP surgeries, McFarlane’s Chemist, Wilson’s shop on Gloucester Avenue, Green Drive newsagents, Shop 4 You on the Upper Cairncastle Road, and Toals, McGregor’s, Lough’s and the chemist on the Linn Road. It is also available at Craigyhill Community Centre, Curran Road Garage, Larne Leisure Centre, The Prom Cafe, The Street cafe, Restore, Mckeen’s Butchers in Dunluce street, Sew Good, A&B taxis, The suite shop, E-cigs and alternatives on Dunluce Street, Sounds Good and the Larne Times office.

In Riverdale, those wishing to sign the petition can do so at the fruit shop, butchers, bakery and bric-a-brac store. Other locations to host the petition are The Lunch Box, Centra, The Square Chippy, Impress Dry Cleaners and Costcutters on Waterloo Road.

Pal secretary and spokesperson Beverley White commented: “Larne is really badly affected by this. There is a lot of outrage and people are beginning to speak up and say they don’t want this. Something has to be done and now is the time to get moving.”
