Paramedic tackles medical challenge

David found himself tackling all-new action roles when he took part in Exercise Medical Challenge. The annual training event staged at Belfast Activity Centre, Barnett Demesne, is designed not only to showcase the diverse work of those who work in the Defence Medical Reserves in Northern Ireland, but also to share some of their skills with fellow professionals.

A high proportion of Northern Ireland’s 2,000+ Reservists across the Army, RAF and Royal Navy have medical roles and most of those will already be trained health care professionals when they join.

Warrant Officer Class 2 Sharkey who leads the Recruiting Team at 204 (NI) Field Hospital says, “Exciting and stimulating medical and military training is at the heart of what we do so that we are prepared to face any and every eventuality, from managing trauma to dealing with complex humanitarian emergencies or developing disease or infection control programmes … and just about everything in between! We’re delighted to provide others with a taste of that world class training, much of which is nationally recognised and accredited.”
