But Detective Chief Inspector Una Jennings refused to name any one group specifically when asked if the PSNI believed the INLA were involved.

Speaking as Mr Devine’s family announced a £50k reward for information that might lead to a successful prosecution, DCI Jennings said the assistance of the local community was key.

“There are a number of paramilitary groupings in this general area, which we have information to suggest may have been involved in this murder,” she said.

“I wouldn’t want to be prescriptive around aligning a particular grouping at this particular juncture,” she said.

DCI Jennings said she was keeping a very open mind around the motives for the attack but added: “It’s fair to say, one of the lines of inquiry we are following is that it was a local paramilitary group that was involved in shooting Patrick dead.”

She said police believe they have a well developed sense of who was responsible.

She said: “Local people know what happened to Patrick. We know this. What I’m saying to them today is to reflect on the ten years that Katie Devine has had carrying this burden and to come forward and speak to us.”
