Parenting Apart - afree course

A MAJOR concern for many couples seeking to split is the impact such a separation or divorce will have on their children.

As a result the Parents Advice Centre is organising an innovative 4 week programme ‘Parenting Apart’ Wednesday, February 10 to Wednesday March 3, from 6pm-8pm.

The venue will be the Parents Advice Centre, City Factory Building, 100 Patrick Street.

The free course is aimed At Parents Who Have Separated; Are Separating; Divorced Or Thinking Of Divorce And Will Provide Practical Advice And Guidance On What Children Need To Know, And What Parents Can Do To Meet Their Needs.

Jackie Valentine, manager of the Parenting Education Project, PAC discusses the programmes: “A recent report from kids in the middle found that 72% of children felt they needed someone to talk to about their feelings. (2008) Separation or divorce is an extremely emotional process.

“Such family change undoubtedly affects parenting. Not only are separating parents adapting to new personal situations and environments but they are also often faced with the challenge of answering difficult questions from their children. The actual words which parents use during this time are extremely important so that children understand what is happening. They will also highlight the importance of parents taking time out to remind themselves of what is in the best interests of the children.”

There are still places left on the course and anyone interested in taking part should contact 71 372006 or email [email protected]
