Park band do their bit for sick children

PRIDE of the Park Flute band in Armoy have been praised for their generosity in helping sick children by handing over a cheque to the Northern Ireland Children to Lapland Trust last week.

Present at the Rook's Nest was Mr. Jack Rodgers, chairman of the N.I. Lapland Trust and co-ordinator, Fiona Williamson, who were delighted to receive 500 - the proceeds of a Fun Day organised by the band in the village on July 10 last.

Speaking after being presented with the cheque, Mr. Rodgers explained that the money was invaluable in taking sick children to Lapland.

"You would not believe how many children are terminally ill in Northern Ireland and in North Antrim, but donations like this will put a smile on their faces," Mr. Rodgers said.

He aded that all those who worked for the organisation did so on a voluntary basis and that only a tiny percentage of the money used for postage, brochures etc., was taken. Well over 90 per cent was used solely to pay for the children going to Lapland.

Mr. Rodgers praised the Park for their efforts and said they had set an example to other bands and organisations.

The Fun Day proved a success with villagers digging deep to support this year's chosen charity. Last year, Macmillan nurses were the beneficiaries.

The Pride of the Park Fun Day committee would like to thank all the businesses who supported them by providing sponsorship and to the public who turned up on the day.
