Parking mad

ONE of the biggest days in the Catholic Church calendar in Ballycastle was 'spoiled' on Saturday by the over-zealous placing of parking tickets, it has been claimed.

A number of people attending a First Holy Communion ceremony in St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s Chapel were stunned when they returned to their vehicles to find parking tickets fluttering on windscreens.

It is understood people parked in a part of the road used by school buses during the week but as it was a Saturday many people believed there would be no issue in parking there.

But as children received the Holy Sacrament inside the Chapel, tickets were being left on car windscreens.

One man who was present, who did not wish to be named, said: “To say that those who got tickets were livid was an under-statement. This was one of the biggest days of their lives for local children but things were soured when the tickets were dished out.

“It should have been quite clear no bus would use the area on a Saturday morning when schools were not on.

“One woman could not contain herself and after an expletive came out of her mouth she said she would not normally swear and said she was going back in to say a prayer because of her indiscretion.

“Those who got tickets thought it was very unfair and said it had spoiled their day,” added the eye-witness.

The Times contacted traffic warden company NCP but at the time of going to press there was no reply.
