Parking scheme for Magee

A RESIDENTS’ parking scheme could be established in the Magee campus area with a working group set up to consider the matter due to report this summer.

Roads Minister Conor Murphy advised the group was established to consider the issue last year and that provided the correct criteria were met and sufficient support was in evidence a resident’s scheme could be established.

He was responding to a query from SDLP Assembly candidate Pól Callaghan who asked if a scheme similar to that taken forward near Queen’s University in Belfast would be implemented in Londonderry.

The Minister replied: “My Department’s Roads Service has advised that a working group was set up last year to consider options for dealing with parking in the area surrounding the Magee Campus in Derry.

“The group is expected to report its findings by summer 2011 and it is anticipated that a residents’ parking scheme will be included as an option for some of the area.

“However, the progression of any Residents’ Parking Scheme will be dependent upon those areas identified meeting the necessary criteria and achieving the required level of support from residents.”
