Participants in computer course receive certificates

COMPUTER skills in Antiville and Craigyhill have been enhanced after eight local people celebrated the successful completion of an internationally recognised course delivered by LEDCOM.

The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) was identified by the Antiville and Craigyhill Community Forum as a suitable accredited qualification – supported by the Department for Social Development (DSD) – to assist local people in their voluntary and paid roles within the community.

The 27-week course covered a range of computer skills with a variety of modules, including security for IT users, internet and e-mail, IT user fundamentals, word processing, spreadsheets, database and powerpoint.

Presenting the ECDL certificates at Willowbank, Anne Currie from the DSD congratulated the participants on their success.

“The DSD Areas at Risk programme has enabled local communities to build the skills and capacity of both groups and individuals; I am delighted to see how the funding can make a tangible difference through accredited training opportunities,” she said.

One of the participants, William Ferguson, who volunteers within the Craigyhill Community Group and youth club, highlighted how the training had assisted him in his voluntary roles,

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the course and the excellent training provided by Lawrence Greer, the LEDCOM IT tutor. Much of the learning can be applied to my record keeping within the youth club and in my role as treasurer”.
