“The Victoria Street area remains closed at this time while enquiries continue.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and who may have noticed any suspicious activity to contact police at Lurgan on 101 quoting reference 1459 04/10/16 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111”

Lurgan Sinn Fein Councillor Liam Mackle said: “A motive for these two worrying shootings has not yet been established.

“The PSNI need to properly investigate and anyone with information about these attacks needs to pass that on.

“This type of criminality has no place in our town and we all need to stand together to reject it.

“Firing shots at houses will inevitably end in tragedy, I would urge those who did this to reflect on their actions and respect our community.”

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart hit out at those involved.

She said: “The areas in which these shots were fired are built up. A large number of families live here and this could very well have resulted in loss of life.

“For individuals to open fire on households in this way is utterly wrong. I condemn this unreservedly and call on the PSNI to ensure a speedy proactive investigation.

“These individuals needs taken off our streets and to feel the full rigours of the judicial system.

“These people have nothing to offer Lurgan. It is a great place to work, live and visit but this alarming news does nothing for community relations and confidence.

“I will be liaising and supporting the PSNI as they seek to deal with these occurrences. I want to ensure that adequate resources are deployed to deal with these ongoing problems. I encourage anyone with any information to come forward to the PSNI or anonymously to Crimestoppers and report it.”
